Eldon christmas party
« on: October 02, 2009, 05:49:24 pm »
I think we should have a christmas stomp/party with a band in stead of the usual drink around Buxton. Anyone got any ideas?

Hmmmm, i'm not sure this souinds like a good idea.

An Eldon based stomp/party is only going to lead to copious amounts of drunkedness and tomfoolery, both of which, as a self-promoting highly-opinionated member of the caving community, i'm certainly not going to be interested in.

Really, you guys should just grow up...!

:thumbsup:The first caving conference I went to was at UMIST in the early eighties.  The bar and the band were in the same room and near the end of the evening an almighty beer throwing fight broke out mainly between the DCC and the NCC.  I'd guess over 200 beer plastics were hurled across the room and even if you weren't involved I should think everyone got pretty soaked.  The band played on right through the mayhem and the bar stayed open supplying the ammo.  It was an absolute hoot of a night, old burgess boy would have hated it, however, because of that night I've been to nearly every conference since.  Don't party so hard myself now but always stick up for those that do.  So well done you naughty Eldon boys and girls keep up the good work and looking forward to next year already.

Amazed none of the police call outs were down to you.  Seems, some of them at least, were down to altogether more responsible members of the caving community!

or we could go for some beer as per usual - and ensure we end up in a night club.

Does Buxton have a night club.

Yep, and what about Springs - under the Old Hall I think.... my local haunts from '83 to about '92 when I moved to Sheffield.

I lived in Buxton for 6 years and it's a great night out, I recently revisited it for my stag do and it's changed a bit but still good fun if a bit quieter than I remember it.

I used to live above the george which sadly has now closed down  :(  Monday nights were great, free food and live music just take your own instrument and join the fray  ;D

You should visit the Clubhouse, the Kings head, the Sun, Springs is now called the Orchestra pit and is still good and the Volt can be fun (but doesn't serve ale  :spank:)

I spent many a happy night in the Gaslight but now it's changed hands and is called the icebar and is thought to be a bit rough (at least according to the locals).  There is a club called Level 2 which is colourful at the best of times and is probably the place to go if you want to dance a lot .

The back room of the Eagle is the best place to go on Saturday nights its always packed and they serve a good pint  :beer2:
Soupy Norman lives on!

The Eagle used to be the pub where when you left, if you were lucky, you got to pick which window you went out through!

Having looked into it a bit more the spar bar has a room above it which is the same size as the one bellow which i should be able to get for free. The spar bar has cleaned its act up and kicked out all the rif raf and is trying to change its name

The Spa Bar function room is Booked for SAT the 19th of December, there won’t be Band playing but there will be DJ's playing music which will be as Neutral as possible. The Spa bar has a late licence until 3 I think but this usually depends on how many people are there.

I wouldn't mind playing some funk if anyone fancies it (and the DJs wouldn't object, Dan?)
