Mrs T: if you don't want to support the bloke then don't - but I'd like to. The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity is a good cause and this fella's trying to do something positive for it. I'll also take great delight in depriving Alistair Darling of the tax I've had to pay when I earned my donation.

What's a "chugger"?

I think all us taxpayers made plenty of donations to Ben because he used to claim benefits on the basis that he was an "unemployed volunteer worker" (i.e. he was too busy digging to have a job)! What a star he was . . . .

Don't let my conceit stop you Pitters, it's a free country and all that.  I just think they could have done something more useful - either with respect to caving or to medicine, social care, whetever.

I think this guy is quite a long way from being a paid charity mugger, he's doing something intensely personal, outside his comfort zone in support of a charity that's helping his friend.  I've done the same in the past, so I'll be supporting him.

Chris is currently invading North Yorkshire with a group of lively young lads, in his day job as a youth worker. He is not a chugger but he is a caver.
I'm sure all the comments on here we're well intended really, as why shouldn't he do something which raises money for a good cause and is non-detrimental to anyone or any environment? Would you say 'The thousands of runners who do the London Marathon for charity don't benefit the needy or running'? It also seems a little aloof to suggest that they might not have considered what impact they might have in the cave.
He tells me the camp went well, although they did it in Giants in the end due to prevailing conditions and only 6 of them could make the change of date. They took books, food, water etc. none of which made much of an apperance as they spent the whole time talking crap! Sounds like an average sort of a trip to me
