Brill (hope I can prise the key from Roger) walrus bring the gas axe!

7pm at the hunters, relatively short but proper cavey crawly trip best done in winter time. Will include mild peril of slight splashyness and much horizontal progression with a couple of tight bits that I fit though snugly. We will have to be very carefull to keep within the marked path and careful of whats above our heads.

PS dont grab the large flat rock at the top of the climb with the midget ladder....

Make it a good long trip - then we shall see you in the pub later. Hope all this rain doesn't ruin your plans.

water levels may cock this trip up, entrance becomes impassable with even moderate rain, :o

It was alright Friday when swildons was a tad wet.

If anything goes wrong and we cant get out of the entrance hopefully roger has some really long tubes though which to pump Butcome to keep us going on the long wait. Ham&pasta can be sealed in pelli boxes and lobbed down the rift.

ham pasta can be liquidised, and butcome used as the medium to suspend it for pumping, lumpy and nutritious, (just like straight butcombe in fact)

if it's dropped it can be a bugger to pick up again, and it's quite fragile.

No, might sit in the hole again, SRT not really practical its more of a freeclimb (in situ ladder) as concluded by Cap'n Chris who also reports caverns measureless to man at the bottom with a direct link to upper flood.

Everything's fragile in there. don't look up too quickly!

After September rift I am confident that the pitch in HLIS is in fact no problemo and will be back to finally conquer it. Caving elsewhere tomorrow I think though.

Bob, we went there last Friday with all the rains and it was a little damp but seemed fine, the bottom of slope before the mini ladder and chimney up, looked like it was filling up however and we didn't hang around for too long in case it sumped. I was going to ask J-Rat about how the cave behaves when it is really wet, but in the end we just went and did it

Not sure wot the bottom pitch is called but it is quite a bit tighter than September Rift,
I can assure you.
Very well worth doing, best part of the cave.

Bottom pitch is called Pewter Pot followed by a wade through Slop 1 into Brown Ale Boulevard.

Whoo Hoooo!

Only 4 wet peoples coming out of HLIS, or 3 people and one drowned rat!

I have a bit of cold and have been stuck in a comms room all day so i'll load myself up some all sorts of drugs and take it easy as its a short trip but plenty to see so I am not adversed to having a nice sit down and a cup of tea while watching the formations grow  :coffee:

I didn't make it in the end. In future if I want to do a mid-week trip further west (to me) than Wiltshire remind me of my least-favourite 'joke':

shame walrus it was a good trip. How about you arrange Emma Green Chalk mine for an evening trip?

Myself, joker and Bob duly arrived and went for a scamper down HLIS at about 19:30hrs. As I have have done this trip 3 or 4 times in the last two weeks I happily zoomed up and down looking at stuff and getting dirty, everything was easy. A hole appeared in my over suit ass so my furry got a bit mucky and I got wet.

Saw the bones....

Cheers guys.

Yes I did drink before caving.... A Coke..

Next time you go in The Hunter's Lodge Inn Sink
D.P. you wanna go down Pewter pot,
excellant down there.
When Treemonkey & I did it we went equiped with s.r.t. but Mister JRat who more or less accompanied us said just use the ladder, which is wot we did, had to strip off all metalware to get down the tight slot, much easier coming back up
but still snug!!!

Pewter pot is not completely rigged at the mo, there is a rope down there for abseiling, but the rub points are far too bad for prussiking, the ladder coiled at the head of the pitch is too short, the bottom ladder having been broken and we can't get the krab holding the top one off (time for a hacksaw trip methinks)

Spooky.

It's pretty much a free climb with maybe a jammer on a rope for backup/psychological reassurance.
