We would like to take this opportunity to remind you this weekend road closure will be from 20:30 on Friday 15th July 2016 to 06:00 on Monday 18th July 2016.

We will be providing a minibus service to replace the Stagecoach Service 3 on Saturday.

The Glanbaiden roundabout will be fully open with traffic from Abergavenny being able to use the roundabout to access Gilwern.

A few of us are off to Whitewalls this weekend. Guess as we're coming off before Gilwern then we'll be fine.

We know about the nearest caves to Whitewalls, but in case we need to go anywhere else, does anyone have any suggestions as to good trips nearby?

One that I was kind of interested in was the Quarry pot to the west, http://www.ogof.org.uk/blaen-onneu-quarry-pot.html

also, is Ogof Cynnes worth a look in?

I can recommend Blaen Onneu Quarry Pot.  The council have block off the track from the main road.  A bit of a pain as you cannot drive up to the cave anymore.

Ogof Cynnes is quite remote, but if the weather is fine, it makes for a nice walk and there is a good amount of cave to explore with some impressive mud in places.

Another interesting option is Llanelly Quarry Pot, the entrance rift is a little awkward, but then an easy pitch drops you to a fine streamway.

Have fun

Thank you Tony? and Mr Dudley CC.

Llanelly does look interesting, I guess (if we want to go) I'm best heading down the road that has Daren on it to Brynmawr and then picking my way through the town centre before heading east to the cave. http://www.ogof.org.uk/llanelly-quarry-pot.html

Ogof ap Robert and Ogof Tarddiad Rhymney also look interesting, we'll probably need to make a decision on the day I guess, too much to choose from as well as the bigguns near whitewalls.

If the A465 is closed, then getting to Llanelly Quarry via Brynmawr does sound like the best option. The pot is a really good trip.

Cynnes makes an interesting trip. Fun if you like lots of mud!

As for Tarddid Rhymney and Ap Robert, bear in mind that the road is now closed at Trefil and it's a 3 mile walk from there to the quarry that Tarddiad Rhymney is in. Both caves, like Cynnes, can be tricky to find. A GPS would be useful.

Ogof Rhyd Sych, near Merthyr, is a good trip if you're not too portly.

Hope you have a good weekend.
