Edelrid have produced the "Bulletproof" hybrid karabiner

Their description: "Innovative, robust hybrid biner with steel insert at the apex of the biner. Prevents premature wear and burrs or sharp edges. Steel insert prevents premature wear from rope friction or bolt hangars. Keylock closure system for optimal handling when clipping and unclipping H-profile construction ensures best possible use of material and minimal weight. Ergonomic gate design for easier clipping."

Our description: This could be the perfect braking carabiner for your SRT Kit. Steel insert reduces wearing from dirty ropes while descending, yet it's lightweight alloy gate keeps weight to a minimum. Edelrid market it as a hard wearing sport climbing Karabiner. We think it'll pass the test of time underground.

I think it will wear in exactly the same way as the new Croll, with pretty much the same effect.

I just tend to bulk buy second hand alloy krabs off Facebook's 'Outdoor Gear Exchange'. They work out at about ?2 or cheaper if you get the right deals and last long enough...

Plus it's better for the environment and all that.
