Nice to see some pictures of Frakes Passage. It really is an enjoyable outing and a lovely little island to visit.

Sorry, yes kingsdale as the previous posters have already said.  Its a shortish (45m) sump from the furthest upstream rowten sump.

Kingsdale Master Cave :)

Thanks

No, Frakes Passage is part of Rowten Pot. (Folk often think of it as being in the KMC because they find that the easiest way to access it, or to exit from it when doing a through trip from Aquamole Pot). Rowten Pot (downstream) and the KMC were connected on 2nd July 1966. But the upstream route from Rowten Pot (later leading to Frakes Passage) had been known for decades. Hence Frakes Passage is part of Rowten Pot.

A glance at Northern Caves Volume 3 (latest 1994 edition) page 62 confirms this. (Note however that Frakes Passage is wrongly punctuated in this reference.)

Further confirmation is found in the Cave Diving Group Review 1966-67 which describes the discovery of Frakes Passage (pages 72-73) under the heading: "Rowten Pot - Upstream Sump".

The above may seem pedantic to some but I'm pretty sure the owners of this forum wouldn't want it to perpetuate wrong information.  ;)

Thanks for this Pitlamp - I'd been trying to find the original writeup in the Newsletters the other night but could't find it. Was nice to read about the original pushes up to Aquamole though. I then started to read about Mossdale and was still looking at surveys of it when I realised it was 1.30am - time to sleep.

I got a recent (paper) copy of the KMC survey and it is good to see the route from Aquamole to VE.
