News of a new discovery in Spain.  Sounds like a winning dig.  As translated to me....

The La Vidriera Cultural Center in Camargo (Cantabria) has welcomed the announcement of the discovery and descent of the largest vertical pothole in Spain. Located in the Torca del Porr?n in the Cantabrian municipality of Ruesga, it is 435.92 meters in depth. It was explored by speleologists of the Cantabrian Club of Underground Explorations (CCES) settled in Camargo 'sponsored' by the Department of Sports, as well as Speleo Club ?brigu with headquarters in Pi?lagos. Accompanied by the Councillor of Sports of the Camargo City Council, Gonzalo Rode?o, the Councillor for the Environment, Carlos Gonz?lez, and the Councillor for Tourism, Eugenio G?mez, who congratulated the members of both clubs for this discovery, the cavers Adri?n Fern?ndez and Luciano Sedano together with the president of the Cantabria Federation of Speleology, Manuel Gonz?lez Morales, have explained the details of this finding. So they have detailed that the depth of this ?pitch? corresponds to almost one and a half times the height of the Eiffel Tower of Paris, or that is equivalent to the height of the missing Twin Towers from New York.

According to the international classifications, the ?pitch? would be included in the list of the ten deepest vertical ?pitches? in the world and within the category of free-fall ?drops?, it would be in second position worldwide, after the Gulf of Velebita, in Croatia, with 513 Meters, and just ahead of 424 meters from the Baiyu Dong ?pitch? in China. It is located near the Torca del Tej?n, whose Pozo del Pasiegos, with 346 meters of freefall, ?had previously held the Spanish Record?. However, now the new ?pitch? exceeds that depth by almost 100 meters, reaching 435.92 meters from the beginning of the vertical to its bottom. In addition, the total depth of the Torca is greater because it is necessary to ?descend? meanders and another pitch before reaching the start of the ?big pitch?, which results in a total depth of 514 meters.

During the joint exploration carried out by these speleologists in the area of Porracolina, it took an ?arduous digging project? before ?the narrow entrance could be explored?. In addition, the descent required the installation of numerous ?re-belays? and a large amount of material to be able to progress in safety conditions, ?including? 600 meters of rope. ?Exploration of the cave continues? and the objective in the short and medium term is to be able to join it with other caves to ?reveal? a complex system of galleries and ?pitches? of several tens of kilometers. In fact, the base of the Pitch ends in a large room to which also connects the neighboring Torca del Tejon.

Apart from Miao Keng in China, which has a single drop of 506m. Although i'm not sure what these "international classifications" are which define pitch vs free-fall drop...
