. This is a photograph taken in 1934 from the Eli Simpson archive held by the British Geological Survey. One of the albums has been digitised by Bob McIntosh, Alan Jeffreys, and John Manchip and is available for viewing on the BGS website
. There are some amazing photographs in the collection.
Short Drop was first explored in 1885 from Gavel Pot by the Gritstone Club, when they used a wooden ladder to overcome the waterfall. Their geography wasn't as good as their caving, though, as they thought it was Low Douk Cave.
