Hello and welcome,

I'm glad to see that despite all the unmentionable things happening in your area, that you are willing and able to share with us!

Hi Jalal

Welcome to the ukcaving form.  Sounds like you have some great caving in your country with some new and amazing discoveries.  The big chamber and shaft are two we have heard about recently.  I hope you find more.  (y)

Glad to know that not all of the middle east is boring sandstone and people are keen to explore. I knew Iran had some caves though, due to the Ghar Paru expedition funding.

I had just come back from Jordan, beautiful, safe but no bloody caves except the very short square ones man dug out 2000 years ago.

There is some interesting stuff on these websites.  Did you know that the deepest cave in the world is in Iran?

I want to cave in Iran, have for years. But I'm sure the governments would have something to say about that :(
Fantastic images though I've seen of your caves, especially lately!

Aren't your governments currently friendly(ish)?

On a personal level, Iranians/Persians are the among most hospitable and friendly people in the World. It's a pity that money, religion and politics have intervened.

So sad to travel from our countries to each other.
It's a photo from two scientists from Oxford that come for Paleoclimate research in Alborz mountain caves and we lead them to find caves for their point, 2014. They have an invite from geology organization.
Here their email:

Dear Friends
We have both arrived safely back in England. Because of the short connection in Qatar.
From our point of view the expedition was excellent in every way. We were impressed not only by the Iranian hospitality, but also by the efficiency with which everything was organised and by the professionalism with which the ICSA cavers assisted us in the field. This level of support from ICSA would rival that of any other similar organisation in the world, an achievement which is even more impressive, considering the young age of ICSA. I really can't think of any shortcomings related to the ICSA support, not even minor ones. All I can really hope is that we didn't give you too much trouble in the caves (or outside).
As I told Javad at the GSI seminar, in cave research the role of caving enthusiasts is just as important as that of scientists. Without people like you, we wouldn't have as many caves to study (as you discover them, map them, then help us study them) and we hope that in return we can make advances in our scientific understanding of the cave environment. This is indeed a unique partnership in scientific research and we hope we will continue to work together in the future.
All the best and happy caving!

The Kataleh khor cave survey is now more than 20km and made it the longest cave in middle east. 1200m from entrance is a show cave.
Our club was in 3 mapping trip in this cave and surveyed about 3km of maps.

Sorta? Not really.

Jalal - sounds like an amazing cave and fun time, I enjoy geology. 3 km mapped in 3 trips is fast! I think the most I've done in a single trip is ~1500ft, which is about 0.5km. Is Kataleh big open walking passages, I take it?

Yes Amy, Katalehkhor cave is wide and have big passages for walking and we used Distox2 and Pocket Topo for mapping. Actually from entrance, when it was not a show cave it have a 400m narrow passage, but when the company comes to making it, they widen this part to walking people, We sent protest for them and now they acting better by this cave.
