School of Earth and Environment,
University of Leeds
Third Circular: 14 February 2012

The British Cave Research Association is pleased to give final details for its one-day
annual Cave Science Symposium, which will be held in the Maths / Earth and Environment
Building, University of Leeds, on Saturday 10 March 2012. This will be a joint meeting with
the Yorkshire Geological Society and the Leeds Geological Association and will be
hosted by Professor Simon Bottrell and Dr. Phil Murphy of the University of Leeds.
Whether you are an academic, an amateur scientist, geologist or a caver wanting to find out
more about the karst environment, you should find something of interest at the Symposium.
A provisional programme of presentations is attached. Pre-registration is not required, but, in
order to avoid delay to the start, please arrive before 9.00am, when registration will
commence. The admission charge, to include morning and afternoon refreshments, will be
?5, with free entry to speakers, students and members of the sponsor organisations.
Donations to help finance the meeting will also be accepted.

Attendees may bring their own lunch packs or briefly visit the Student Union for lunch. At the
conclusion of the Symposium, we have been invited to visit a geological teaching laboratory.
Limited numbers may also visit the YGS and caving archives in the Boyle Library, which is
on the same site. For any further information, please contact the lecture secretary, Dr.
Trevor Faulkner, by 8 March at: t.faulkner [at] bcra.org.uk or by telephone at: +44 (0)1625
531558. All are welcome, and we look forward to seeing you at the Symposium.
The Maths / Earth and Environment Building (University no. 84) is behind the Student Union,
as shown on the interactive map at: www.leeds.ac.uk/campus-life. Enter through the main
door of the School. The University is situated a pleasant 20 minute uphill walk from Leeds
city station. All day onsite car parking will probably be available via the main entrance in front
of the large tower in Woodhouse Lane at LS2 9JT, and may be charged at ?5. The multistorey
Woodhouse Lane car park is 10 minutes walk away, nearer the centre of Leeds.
