In the northern caves there are many examples of glacial debris having been washed into passages, thereby blocking or partially blocking them. On the other hand, by deepening the pre-existing river valleys in a ?rapid? (by geological standards) process, the glaciation of the Dales opened up ? or, indeed, allowed the formation of ? other caves. (I assume that the classic through trips in Kingsdale would not have been possible, or even existed, if the valley hadn?t been gouged out by a glacier.)
So ? did the glaciation of the Dales do more to help cavers by opening up otherwise inaccessible caves, or more to hinder them by blocking up passages and entrances?
