Joint BCA/BCRA Party Weekend: 14-16 June 2013

For the first time BCA has joined together with BCRA to host a Party Weekend based at the Rotary Centre, Castleton from 14-16 June 2013.

The weekend combines a late bar, hog roast, band and disco with some introductory cave science workshops and the BCA AGM. The venue is suitably remote and has plenty of on-site bunkroom accommodation, as well as space for tents. Importantly the bar will be run by cavers and all profits from the weekend will go to the Ghar Parau Foundation. All BCA members are encouraged to attend. For enquiries or bookings for either the accommodation or the workshops, please contact the BCA Secretary, Damian Weare, at secretary [at] british [hyphen] caving [dot]org[dot]uk.

Further details plus a provisional programme of events can be downloaded from http://tinyurl.com/BCA-Party

It'll be good to see as many forum members as possible.

The British Caving Library will be having an open day on the Saturday from 10.30am to 5.30pm.  It's at Glutton Bridge, just south of Buxton, so not far to go if you'd like to drop in - everyone is welcome.

Jenny

BCRA Library Coordinator

Shamelessly bumping this one back up as there's now only a month to go.

14-16 June 2013 - Castleton

There's loads going on, including a wide variety of accessible cave-science talks / walks / trips during the day on Saturday, a presentation by Chris Jewell on the recent successes in Mexico, a Hog Roast (plus other food, including veggie) plus a disco and live band in the evening. All this (apart from the food) is free to all BCA members ... and yes, that includes green card holders!)

Accommodation is available, either camping or beds inside the venue, and breakfast will be served on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

For more info or to book*, please send me an e-mail at secretary [at] british [hyphen] caving [dot]org[dot]uk.

*In reality, of course, you can just turn up without booking but it will make it MUCH easier for us to cater if we have an idea of how many are coming ... no money up front and you're not committing yourselves.

Less than 2 weeks to go now.

If you've nothing planned for the weekend of 14-16 June, then get over to Castleton for an excellent weekend. Talk on Mexico plus a disco and band on Saturday evening, all free and food in between only ?5 per person. Plenty of accommodation is also available. If you're coming I'd be grateful if you could let me know to help with planning.

I'm 99% certain I can't join you (due to circumstances beyond my control) but I think this is an excellent idea and it certainly deserves to be supported.

Numbers are increasing quite rapidly at the moment, which is great.

For anyone who is still unsure, there is the added bonus of a full English breakfast available on Saturday and Sunday mornings (all prepared by cavers, for cavers so excellent value!)

Don't go making rash promises Damian  ;D

Just a small point, If there is anyone planning to attend who is a Vegetarian, please let the organizers know BEFORE Thursday, so that I can get enough supplies in for you.

Surely a quick mowing of a local lawn, plus raiding a cemetery of floral offerings would suffice?

People coming to Castleton might like to be aware that the B6049 (the road from Tideswell through Bradwell) is closed between Bradwell and Brough (the junction with the A6185).

Alternative routes are via Sparrowpit and Winnats Pass, or via Hathersage.

Nick.

Thanks to everyone who was able to come along this weekend and particularly to the many, many wonderful people who ran things, organised things, led things, cooked things or generally helped out. It was all very much appreciated.

The event was a first and, as such, a bit of a trial run. In general we are pretty pleased with how it turned out but there are definitely things we can do better next time, so any comments would be appreciated (ideally by e-mail / PM).
