Anyone know the name of the documentary made quite a few years ago about the pushing trips in Goughs Cave - Cheddar, It featured Rob Palmer and Richard Stevenson among st others and featured the break through via Dire Straits as I seem to recall.

Would like to try and obtain a copy if possible.

Thanks

Stu.

I think I'm watching it now but the first few mins in missing. Does it start with an old guy using rebreathers in the late 40's (Balcombe?) Then go on to Martyn Farr? Robs Palmer & Parker have just put in an appearance.
Bugger it's Wookey - sorry! I'll keep watching though, it's an old vid with the label that just says "cave diving".

Not sure, could it be the Nosey Parker documentry by Leo Dickinson about the Wookey dives ?

Ain't he some spandex climber that  Leo Dickinson??

just askin btw.

Just found the Nosey Parker Doc!
If SWMBOs label on the vid is correct, the one you're after is called "Hidden Depths". I'll have to chastise her (some hope!) as the first few mins are missing again!
I'm watching it now.

Hello Chris,
I haven't seen that
but would love too,
only thing is I dumped my video machine & videos about three years ago, when I got given a dvd machine for Christmas.
I visited a mate this week,
who still watches videos ( didn't think anyone bothered any more)
anyway his video went bang, so he has bought a machine that you can record dvd's on and still play videos, he thinks he should be able to copy the vhs onto dvd but the instruction book is a monster  :o

Don't know what it was called but we've probably got a copy of it somewhere as 'im indoors was part of the team (and pushed some of the downstream stuff).  I know Gavin did the filming for the 1990 (think it was 1990) push to the end so he might have done the earlier filming too.

I was around at Cheddar during the making of the film.  I'm pretty sure Gavin wasn't involved and that Rob Palmer did most of the underwater filming.

No - you're thinking of Leo Houlding. Leo Dickinson has been around for much longer - a climber and film maker.

And spandex is soooo eighties.

also a balloonist and parachutist as well as a mountainere and cave diver his books filming the imposible and anything is posible are well worth a read

The underwater filming was done by the late Rob Palmer, but there was a cast of millions involved, including Quakers as dive controller. Richard was around recently but I believe he's returned to Spain. If I can't find out anything at work I'll ask the third diver involved.

The filming was done by Rob, may have a copy of the film somewhere will have to look, and have some slides taken during the dives, only above water. The diving was called THE LOST CAVE EXPLORATION but not sure if the programe was called the same.

Hidden Depths, I believe.

Not sure it was.  Wasn't Hidden Depths Sid's cave diving series?

Yes it was. I remember Mineries Pool, Wookey Hole and Swildons appearing in it when covering diving on Mendip (and seeing Sid at Priddy Heights caravan site cafe when he was filming in Swildons) - but I don't remember seeing Goughs Cave in any of the series of programs.
