I'm interested in finding out more about this cave. I believe it was a BEC dig. Can anyone shed any light on it please?

Battery Swallet was dug by the MCG in the late 1980's and later.
John Beauchamp was one of the main diggers - I banged it a couple of times for him. John now lives in Australia - PM me if you need his contact details.
I think Vince Simmonds was also involved - he was MCG then.

Are you going to start digging it? - How about on RatFest (15th Nov)?

It's not that Battery Swallet, but the one in the new 'Who was Aveline anyway' book.
It's described as near Smitham Hill and was dug by the BEC in the 1990's

Are there more than one Battery Swallet?

I think the two references are for the same dig - Swallet Farm (The one I know)  is not far from Smithen Hill (The other reference).

Please give references to where you heard this plus any more details that you might have as the Mendip Cave Registry will find this very useful..

Thank you.

Hi Graham, The Author of Who was Aveline anyway? Can explain the mix up of there being 2 references to Battery swallet!  I WILL TRY AND EXPLAIN BELOW!

The said BEC Diggers used to be in the MCG!  Wig recorded that it was dug by the BEC! But infact they were members of the MCG at the time of Battery being Dug! Therefore it has always been a MCG dig! So there is only one BATTERY SWALLET!
Hope this all makes sense.

Hi Treemonkey. No, the book was written by Rich Whitcombe, not me.

Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense. All references to Battery Swallet in the MCRA Bibliography are to the MCG Newsletter. Wig was extremely good at collecting information, but he wasn't always as good at interpreting what he'd got.
