Nods Pot

Hi Graham,
Doug Harris and I tried to find it about five/ten years ago, no sign of it then, just slightly disturbed looking  ground.
Pinney Sleight Farm was being re-developed a few years ago, I'd assumed for holiday lets.
Mick

I recall a long time ago chatting to someone about their dig in Nods Pot. Memory is not so good, but I think they said it was just one shaft dug down into a mass of loose mud and rocks, got to some respectable depth, but abandoned as a waste of time and effort. Maybe they were talking about somewhere else, but whoever it was, I think they were doing this from our base, a long time before we took it over, so that would almost certainly mean it was Willie Stanton I was talking to.

You old dog Graham looking for a 600 foot deep dig to by pass the easy bits.   :-\

Wouldn't you appreciate a way in without squeezes, Pete. Even if Ali doesn't have to pull you out any more!

The sensible approach would  to to get the Tempeton lot to excavate

Given the nature of the place & given that I have now had two reports of it no longer being findable, I reckon it's been backfilled.

I tried to find out about digging Pinney Sleight Pot a long time ago (maybe 20 years?) and was told it had been filled in by the farmer. Is Nods Pot another name for Pinney Sleight Pot?

Yes, thanks Aubrey.

From an article from Willie Stanton in our newsletter, from 1984....

With the Mansions as our base, between 1949 and 1953 we visited all the classic Mendip caves including August Hole, which was then very new and many mine shafts. We dug at Nod's Pot, Middle Down Drove Swallet (Tiddle-Tum-Tum), Reservoir Hole, the so-called Priddy Green passage in Swildon's and Badger Hole.

We discovered, explored and surveyed the Black Hole Series and the St. Paul's Series in Swildon's and we explored Ludwell Rising. We geologised in Lamb Leer, Waldergrave Swallet and the closed basins south east of Cheddar Gorge and we surveyed in Swildon's and various Cheddar caves. Some idle afternoons were spent in pioneering technical rock climbs on the little cliff opposite the Mansions.
