Why does the site need donations?
My server runs two main forums, ukbouldering.com and ukcaving.com. It also runs a small gaming forum which doesn't really use many resources, and a private site for my family. Almost all (ie over 98%) of the webspace and bandwidth usage is generated by ukbouldering.com and ukcaving.com, with ukbouldering using more, simply because it attracts more users.

Forums are fairly notorious for using a lot of server resources, that is transfer bandwidth and database processing. In order to keep the site running fast and advert free, a fairly decent web host is required. This isn't just ordinary webspace, but is a virtual linux server which gives me full root access to everything on the server. This costs a lot more money than just a normal bit of webspace but allows much more flexibility in what the site can offer. Also, for the gallery to expand I need quite a lot of actual storage space, especially for videos.

All the running costs over the last few years have been met from my own personal funding, and if it was possible to do so I would keep it this way. However, due to a recent massive career change I am currently earning a pretty shitty wage, and the server costs are too much of my salary to justify.

Another way to generate money would be via branded items such as t-shirts. This is planned to happen in the future, but as usual, time is the limiting factor here.

How do I donate?
Just click the paypal button below and you'll be taken away from this page - once you've finished you'll be brought back to the site.

Although payment is easiest if you already have a paypal account, this is not necessary and you can pay using all normal credit/debit cards without having to set up a paypal account.

If you would prefer not to use any of these methods, contact me by private message via the forum, and I will give you my name and address so you can send a cheque or cash.

How much do I need to donate?
Anything. Anything at all is welcome and I don't specify an amount - just donate what you feel you can spare given how much you value the site.

What does my donation get me?
Nothing apart from my gratitude, and a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
