The current edition of this book is its third and was published in 1995; the two previous editions being released in 1978 and 1986. The third edition describes some 137 caves arranged in the book by area. Beyond the well known South Wales caving areas, it also covers the major caves of the Forest of Dean. The current edition was released in time to include some of the major discoveries of the 1990s at Ogof Carno, Slaughter Stream Cave and Ogof Draenen; although the latter cave was significantly extended after the book was completed.
For South Wales at least, the first edition of the book effectively replaced the 1960s guide “Caves in Wales and the Marches” by David Jenkins and Ann Mason Williams.
High quality colour photos from Tony Baker are included within the guide as well as on the front and back covers.
