Introduction
Geology
The Devon caves are formed in Devonian limestone. During the Devonian, Devon lay to the south of the Old Red Sandstone Continent on the edge of the Rheic Ocean. During the early Devonian, shallow water conditions prevailed with mud and sandstone being deposited. During the Mid- and early Late Devonian, the water deepened with fossiliferous limestones being deposited.
