Exploration
The MCG has always been actively involved in exploration for new cave passage, on Mendip, in other UK caving areas, and abroad.
The dig which has kept us busy the longest, and so far has provided some of the best return in quality and quantity of new passage, is Upper Flood Swallet. For many years, activities were concentrated more on conservation, but there was always a great potential for further extension, as the recent discoveries have shown.
The nearest cave to our cottage is Pinetree Pot. The most recent dig was in progress for eight years, and is now suspended.
Recently, members of the group have been digging at Carcass Cave (although this is not an MCG dig - we are just "guests").
Meet program
The MCG meets program covers most UK caving areas and many overseas. Apart from Mendip, the group has caved in Assynt (Scotland), Derbyshire, Devon, North Wales, Portland (Dorset), North Wales, and Yorkshire. Overseas trips have included Argentina, Belgium, France, Madagascar, and Spain. In addition, we have members resident in many parts of the world who can provide local advice for intending visitors.
Charitable status
