The Orpheus Caving Club was established in 1949 to promote the scientific study and exploration of caves within the Peak District and in other areas of the UK and abroad. It is one of the longest established Derbyshire Caving Clubs with a rich history of caving activities to its credit. The Club membership is predominantly drawn from the Derbyshire and Leicestershire area with some members from other parts of the UK. New members are always welcome.

Orpheus Caving Club Cottage is situated in open countryside in the Peak District National Park south of Buxton, close to the caving systems of Monyash, Lathkill Dale and the Manifold Valley and less than 20 miles from the Castleton caving area. The 'White Peak' is excellent walking country and both limestone and gritstone climbing areas are within easy reach. We are also right by the Tissington Trail and Cromford & High Peak Trail with a National Park bike hire centre less than a mile away.

The Cottage is available for bookings for outdoor groups. Usually we can accommodate a maximum of 18 visitors at weekends but we can take more for mid-week bookings. We accept youth and school group bookings only mid-week, not at weekends. There is enough space within the cottage compound for several tents to be put up on the grass - campers using the cottage cooking, changing, toilet facilities, etc. pay the same rate as a normal bednight. Currently the visitors fee is £4.00 per bednight.
