Rescue dumps
From Ukcaving.com wiki
Some of the longer caves in the UK may have rescue dumps.
It is a collection of items that enable survival and provide comfort for explorers trapped in the system for a short period of time.
A typical scenario that would necessitate a rescue dump being provided is a cave system where explorers may be trapped inside the system by flood water which takes some time to recede.
A rescue dump may contain some or all of the following items:
Basics
A small container (BDH?) containing comprhensive first aid, pain killers etc
One/two clearly marked and small Daren drum/s containing:
Two double sized, thick orange survival bags / or bivvi bags
Four balaclavas
A pack of candles
Waterproof matches
cheap fag lighters
One stove and two tins of gas
A pan
One or two mugs
Tea bags, dried milk, Cup-a-Soups
Four dried meals
Assorted choccy stuff
Puritabs
Plastic garden sack for body waste / medical waste
Toilet paper, those little boxes of bog paper women put in handbags
Extras
Two sleeping mats (Karrimats) (“extra” because they wont fit in a DD, but worth including anyway ??)
Gaffer tape
Hammock (Elliot type) – but you would need 1 per person and they are not cheap
pack of playing cards
Magnetic chess
Survey kit, casualties might as well do something useful as they wait (I particulary liked this suggestion)
Packs of 'travel' bottoms/tops & hat- If you're wet the best thing is to change into something dry
