Hello All,

Our intention is a club visit to the Ariege/Aude area this summer.  We intend going for a week to the Villefranche le Conflent to Vernet les Bains locality and have already identified 3 quality canyon trips.  Not sure about the caves though. www.grottocenter.org gives three what could be very interesting ones nearby: Grotte d'En Gorner (17 km), Grotte de Canalettes (26 km) and Grotte des Ambouilla (35 km).  However the site doesn't seem to want to divulge any further facts.  Does anyone out there have any personal or second hand knowledge of these particular caves or others in this area.  Any info would be greatly appreciated as would any tips on group accommodation.  Cheers.

Hi,

In the Aude / Herault area you can visit splendid caves. But you need to have some connections. A lot of the caves are gated and can only be visited with a guide.

A very helpfull caver you' ll find in the following club : http://exploscm.canalblog.com/  try to get in contact with Christophe B?s.

some tips :

- Castanviels
- bufo Fret
- Vent d'anges

On our clubpage http://www.scavalon.be/avalonuk/av09.htm you can find a very small impression of European caves we visited with the club over the years. Just pick aude / h?rault

Some picture galeries of the caves : http://www.scavalon.be/webalbums/Cave%20trips%20in%20France/index.html

A lot of the caves have aragonite and it comes in different colors (blue/green/yellow/white)

If you want to visit the cave with the green aragonite you can try to get a visit via the following site, the cave is called mont marcou :

http://www.associationmontmarcou.fr/

But it will not be for this year :(
