Does anyone here use this Rock Empire Speleo harness and what are your thoughts about it? Advantages and disadvantages?

Looks similar in design to a couple of the MTDE harnesses. Although adding weight, the bum strap does make things more comfy if you're doing a lot of prussicking.

I'd get an MTDE one and I do use a PICOS, although I'd choose the design without the bum strap connectors as they move around and end up pulling the bum strap down. The bum strap is a great thing. The problem is that they do take some adjusting to get right, rather than a 3 adjustment harness.

At a guess: looks like an MTDE Picos with a higher attachment point.

I had the same issue. It's quite annoying.

Fixed by threading 2mm accessory cord through each connector and the adjacent harness closure or buckle, preventing them from moving far around the back.

If money was no option...I'd have a variety of harness suited for the occasion.

For trips with lots of on rope hanging around I'd get something really comfortable like the Alp Design Avalon.

If I was travelling light, MTDE Club packs down smallest and weighs the least.

The AV Muruck is the cheapest I've seen for the harness trashing trips.

As for longevity, I tend to retire harnesses not wear them out so can't say if that is a big concern of yours

I can't say I fancy an integrated chest harness

Problem is because here in Serbia we can choose between 3-4 harnesses. We have Petzl Fractio, Petzl Superavanti which is very hard to find, Singing Rock Digger Light and this Rock Empire Speleo harness. And when we want to buy some of other manufactures, like AV, MTDE, we have to pay more than double of the real price, because someone need to import it from other country. I made this topic because I want to know if someone here use this harness and what are their opinions about it.

So do you think is that a good thing or bad?

For most people, probably a bad thing. For some, a good thing.

With the frog system, a low attachment point increases the distance between your jammers and therefore allows bigger "steps" each time you stand up. This works particularly well if you are slim and have a strong upper body.

However, a low attachment point causes problems for some people, particularly those who are very top-heavy. They can use a huge amount of effort just trying to hold themselves in to the rope.

For these people, a higher attachment point is useful. It will reduce your maximum frogging step, but it will also reduce the strain on your arms.

A higher attachment point can also help with rope-walking techniques.

I thought so too, until I tried one: very, very uncomfortable for me !!!  YMMV

Hey Mike. I think that I have the same problem with mine Rock Empire Speleo harness. Can you post some pictures of that harness how you solve the problem?I have some problem understanding what you did. Sorry if I bother you.

Hi Nihil, here are some pictures. Sorry it took so long! I put it on my task list, and as we all know, task lists are where good intentions go to die. ;)

The first two pictures are the side where I had to use the harness closure loop. The third picture is the other side, where I used the buckle.

Just an update. I gave up from this Rock Empire Speleo harness. It just didn't fit me well. My girlfriend still use her, but I have to sold mine. Now I have new and improved Singing Rock Digger Light harness. It is much better than its previous version, webbing are softer and you can re-adjust it very quickly (users of older design will understand). I can just say, total recommendation.

Previous version is the one with black leg loops abrasive resistance cover and very stiff webbing. The new one is maybe a few years old model, but it is new for me. :D

On pictures:
1. Old
2. New

I used this Rock Empire harness before my current MTDE Amazonia.
In terms of comfort both are pretty much the same but the problem with the Rock Empire is that it does not keeping the adjustment - means you have to readjust it on every use and it is very hard to adjust it since there is some kind of protection piece sewn over the buckles.

I also had some other problem which included my testicle, and that is the main reason why I needed to change it.  ;)
Also that re-adjusting was really annoying and it gets worse when harness is wet and muddy. Last weekend my girlfriend has a lot of difficulties to adjust her harness, and when I tried to help her, I hardly managed to do so. I think that her harness will also go on sale as soon as possible.
