Hello everyone .

Have been searching the internet for books on colliery disaster?s and mining disaster to read ,  I have struggled to find much feedback on the books I have found ,  i am wondering if people on here could recommend some good reads to me about the above topics .

So far I have read the Hartley colliery disaster which was a really good interesting read , at the moment I have just started black avalanche.

I have a list of other books I have found but would rather hear  from some other people about books they have read and enjoyed , some of these original copies are not cheap to buy and I am not keen on re prints really !  :coffee:

Have stuck this in the mining section rather than idle chat or wanted as thought it  was best in this section but is welcome to be moved/ amended  if needed

Tom,

There are lots of disaster books - there are several on my website One I don't have t the moment is but is a particularly good book

Gresford - an anatomy of a disaster - its set around the inquiry afterwards and it shows all the short comings and mismanagemant of the situation

There's a series of coal mining disaster books from Wharncliffe Books (publisher) which I've found to be very good.

Each book deals with a separate mining area.

Are you interested in overseas?

I'd recommend:

Disaster at Brunner - this covers Brunnerton, NZ 1896.  It is very much a mine and town history as well as the disaster itself.

I'd read others too.

I'm not sure if there's a book about the Springhill Mining Disaster in Canada but there is a song.

This is a short documentary about it.

I actually found Andrew mortons book on the Quecreek Rescue quite good. Called "Nine for Nine: The Pennsylvania Mine Rescue Miracle"
