What to do around Askrigg?

My old uni club (DUSA) has just booked a place in Askrigg for our annual dinner later in the year.

It's not an area I've ever spent much time in (despite driving through most weekends for four years), so I figured it would be a good opportunity to see some of the local caves.

What do people recommend?

Low Mill outdoor centre by any chance? If it is, its an awesome place.

The following are relatively close:

Crackpot
Devis Hole Mine
Cliff Force
Windegg Mine Caverns - a gem that everybody has to do (once)
Sir Fransis Level
Pasture Gill Pot
Langstroth Pot
Hagg Gill Pot
Otters Cave (for any divers)

The only cave I've done that way is crackpot, but it's well worth the trip. There are also some lead mines around swaledale etc

I think that's the place  :)

I've been to Devis Hole a couple of times and visited most a lot of the Swaledale mines. I actually saw in my 21st birthday at midnight in the engine chamber of Sir Francis Level, with a bottle of bubbly, nicely cooled by the deep water on the way in  ;)

Also done a bit in Wharfedale, so I'll probably give those a miss and stick to Wensleydale for the novelty.

Crackpot I've heard of (recent CNCC conservation works?), but not been to, so it sounds like that's on the list.

Where is Otters Cave? Can't see it on the CNCC website...

Thanks Mike. I've also found it in the Norther Sump Index and Ben has sent me some details. That one is definitely on my list  (y)

Thackthwaite Beck Cave is a very pleasant 3 mile walk from Askrigg. The cave consists of a lengthy boulder choke with a superb chamber half way through, followed by a few hundred feet of roomy passage to the final choke. There's a fine long duck beneath the boulders which is easier to find on the way out. I seem to remember that Ivy Scar, which is below TBC has some interesting mineralisation.
