Few surface shots at GG on Saturday. It was busy. Arrived at 10 am and there was a four hour wait. Decided to go for a walk instead. Did you visit GG?

Got to GG about 10am too... But went down Dis - strangely there was no waiting down there
First people not in our group that I saw were in SE/S Passage.. Main Chamber was as busy as normal, decided to exit via Flood, had to wait for three people to come down the big pitch but then saw nobody again until the surface!

Darkplaces put in an appearance.

The album has been split into visit dates

The fun bus turned up on Friday evening and we scampered up to Clapham car park were we pitched tents, a slightly chilly 4-5hrs sleep to wake early for the long walk up to the top of the cave. I cooked and scoffed a rat-pack lamb stew, yummy. We then pounded up the long path to Gaping Gill winch area. My plan was to video the event using my head cam, I got some good movies but I do need to sort the hot spot in the middle by defusing the light more. We headed off to the eastern mud hall area, climbing up to a ladder then on to a large chamber with a couple of traverses, the second traverse seamed to have a bottomless pit to fall into, safely across we headed for the muddy section, more climbing and found SRT ropes hanging down. Oh how we wished we had brought SRT gear – GERR – pushing forward it gets more muddy and slippery until we arrived at a very dodgy slab to cross. With the youngsters safety in mind we decide to head back to the main chamber and queue for the winch out, it was getting cold just standing around. Our biggest thanks to the BPC who lowered hot tea down and we were served by a cheery young chap; a fine example of a young caver looking after people, loading people into the winch seat and dishing out tea and later soup. Well done BPC! Finally out we gathered and headed back, I stopped at bar pot and a pee and to change from caver to walker kit and scampered off down the hill not stopping for a break. Later we were fed by GU/LilBro with a top notch chilly, rounding off the night with beer and talk of undergroundness and finally retiring back to tents for another chilly night.

I always find walking past Mud pot a little disconcerting, big hole, slippy mud, makes me think of that chap who got himself lost down there for a few days.

I think that the originator of the thread was referring to Mud Hall rather than Mud Pot.

As you imply, it was at the bottom of Mud Pot that Mr. Peterson involuntarily spent his three-day long sojourn.

Its great to hear people enjoyed their visit. Shame about the queue on the Saturday, the queue was much shorter for the rest of the week. The SRT rope you saw in Mud Hall is Vindication the final pitch of Corky's pot.

That's the first rope. The second would be the bottom pitch of Avalanche Pot Inlet.

I reckon its good that GG has some extra entrances, makes a nice change to the usual ways in... Just look at it this way - it could be worse, it could be another entrance to Easegill  :doubt:

Bet there has been more found in Yourkshire/Lancashire this year than there has been in the Derbyshire Dales !

Instead of digging out new entrances to GG, they should be digging downwards in the main chamber to see if they can then get a shaft deeper than Titan...  :)

Failing that, Hull Pot might be a goer...

Or else building up on the surface as in Juilien Drake's cartoon!

while we're talking GG, what are the access arrangements nowadays?
I was told over the weekend that there was no access through the summer months?

It's only closed to Derbyshire cavers.
