Longest through trip without diving?

As the title suggests, what's the longest through trip in the uk without diving? I'm assuming Wales somewhere.

What do you mean by "longest"?
  • time taken for a competent party moving reasonably briskly
  • as the crow flies from where you enter to where you exit
  • actual distance covered underground

Ohhhh wow, lots of good replies and questions..

Firstly a mine with a canoe......... Tell me more.

Secondly. I dunno really, I'm keen for an epic. So how about longest in length as an option and longest in time as an option

I think the canoe reference is for the Milwr Tunnel.

I suggest The Great Nenthead Traverse for a starter. I think that's about 6 miles?

Chris.

I did the Croesor to Rhosydd through trip yesterday.

There is a canoe with a pulley system to pull it back and forth. You abseil down to it at the start.

Croesor to Rhosydd isn't the longest, or the most epic -- but if the measure was based on smiles-per-mile, it may just be the winner

The longest on Mendip must be priddy green sink to swildons, although you usually park by the former to get to the later! Portland - Ariel to sandy hole?

Box would be a good start for that at 50km (or is it miles). But it's small compared to some newer ironstone mines.

Dinas Rock Silica Mine perhaps?
You'd have to dive though to get a decent distance...

& not sure any of the box entrances are that far apart (on surface or underground - that you are able to use, anyway)

It's quoted at 9.25km on Mr Mike's website, which would be about 5.7 miles. Certainly got to be a good contender and pretty much accessible all year around.

Ease Gill Traverse must be up there too, but the Wormway is unlikely to be passable any time soon if the weather in the Dales has been anything like it's been down here the last few days...

Pillar and stall mines there's one within cycling distance of me near Facit which is meant to be 120 miles long. I have been in there and it is definitely big but not certain it's 120 miles long. It does have other entrances so you could do a through trip.

As for longest through trip back in the caving world I would guess Top sink to Peterson, I think pip would be less distance looking at the survey.

Not Top Sink to Bye George, then?
