I've found 'em interesting (and far better than anything I've ever been capable of producing).

You cot any U/W footage in caves rather than mines? (I realise this may be more difficult to achieve.)

Well there are a lot of similarities. After all caves are sort of mines that people couldn't be bothered to make. If you ignore the shoddy lack of rails, sheave wheels etc maybe they're a bit like mines. In fact some of the diggers install scaff poles to simulate stemples, ladders, and lubricate rock to gain access, so even some cavers try to actively improve them to be more like mines. We shouldn't be snobby, let's be open minded here.

I have a stone mason doing work for me at the moment. He was talking about how for more complex scaffolding you need to actually do a structural design these days, rather than just eye it up.

So naturally I took him down Notts 2 last week to cast a professional eye over it. He enjoyed the streamway and formations, and I can tell you people who hump stone up cathedrals are pretty fit. I think he was with me that maybe that entrance has a shelf life and it will be interesting how that will be managed over coming decades.

The only mine I ever been in I thought was actually safe was the Lochaline sand mine. Basalt shield for roof.
