SCOUR TEST NOTIFICATION TO DOWNSTREAM ABSTRACTORS

We are contacting you as part of our commitment to keep downstream abstractors and interested parties informed about our planned reservoir scour tests.

Just to let you know we are making some changes to the way we communicate this information in future. Our scour test programme for the year is now available online here:

www.yorkshirewater.com/scourtest

It is very easy to use and there is an interactive map which you can just click on to see when scour tests are due.  There is also a complete list of planned tests for the year ahead, which will be updated from time to time if there are any changes to the programme through the year. To confirm any particular dates it?s worth checking a week beforehand just to make sure nothing has changed.

As of 1 January 2021 the webpage will be our primary method of providing this information.

In the meantime, scour tests will be happening soon at the following site/s:

NAME OF RESERVOIR: Scar House IRE
DATE OF SCOUR TEST: 03/09/2020
NGR OF DISCHARGE POINT: SE 068 767
NAME OF WATERCOURSE: RIVER NIDD

Scour tests are routinely carried out on reservoirs to ensure that they can be lowered in an emergency.  The test entails fully opening the outlet valve and the release of water at full flow into the stream for a period of approximately half an hour.  This is likely to cause increased turbulence and deterioration of water quality immediately downstream for the duration of the test and for a short while afterwards.

Looks very frightening

to be honest typically a non event...after all they don't like to release too much water its their livelyhood....but best be safe in case of bigger release of water
