Eurospeleo cartography & digital salons

Anyone hear of any the results or feedback? I entered both those salons and have not heard a peep. I was told I would get feedback for the map at the very least. I saw on facebook some of the photo salon winners, but there is nothing for the digital categories or merits I could find. Usually all the salons are all over facebook right away and this time it's been quiet as a mouse!

Ah, yes, the necessity of catching up with work, Im afraid. But you should have got an email from me today.

I was probably a little over-optimistic. It was "hoped" that there would be verbal feedback sessions by the display boards but, with hindsight, it was unrealistic to assume this would end up in writing, sorry!. Actually, Im not sure that these sessions all happened (for various reasons, which I have noted and will therefore try to anticipate and deal with next year). Certainly the Photo Salon one didnt happen because, at short notice, we were without a salon coordinator for that event. The video session did happen and was (so I hear) done very thoroughly and professionally. The best way to get some feedback on your survey entry, Amy, would be to email the survey salon co-ordinator.

That is nothing to do with the conference organisers. Its entirely up to the entrants to decide what they want to post on Facebook. The event does not own rights to the entries and will therefore not post any of them to Facebook (nor anywhere else). However, if the entrants themselves want to do so, that's great.

Okay thanks. Been busy with teaching cave rescue class all weekend so just got those emails now, must have missed them yesterday.

I shall email the cartosalon then. And i didnt realize eurospeleo isnt responsible for their fb page. I knownother posters are just being quiet but thats not eurospeleos fault!

I voted for the Bluff Creek survey. Not surprising having been in there! I was impressed with the speed with which you completed it since we saw the early stages.  I am thinking of putting in my pictures of Bluff Creek and printing it with those  some time. It was very photogenic.

That's not what I said!  I said that EuroSpeleo does not own rights to the submitted entries.  Its your photo -  YOU own the copyright - so WE cannot go around posting it everywhere on your behalf - the mere fact that you have entered the competition does not give us that right.

Aww thanks Pete! Do you need the digital file? If so I can send it. Bluff River is very nice cave indeed. Now you need to come back and visit Unterstein!

David - ah, well I guess copyright is different there then as im used to stuff being shared and reposted and as long as credit is given and its not for profit or to create profit it usually falls under fair use. The post i saw on EuroSpeleo fb page had quite a few photos from the print entries but none of the digital so they did repost images. Hence confusion. Anyway the list is out now so no worries!

Im sorry to labour this point, but there might still be a misunderstanding here!  Nobody from Eurospeleo posted ANY of the images that were entered in the photo salon competition. The entrants themselves may have posted some images, and then they might have been shared, but that's a different thing.

This isnt a dig at you, Amy, but an attempt to clarify what might be a generally confusing situation.

You can post what you like and share it, and expect it to  be shared once it has been posted. And that's fine and good. (And, in fact, many Social Media terms and conditions take rights away from you anyway).  But what will not happen is that you send a photo to Eurospeleo/Hidden Earth for the express purpose of entering a competition, and then someone from EuroSpeleo/Hidden Earth disregards your rights and re-posts the photo without seeking further specific permission from you.

In fact, the Hidden Earth team is pleased to be the first European caving organisation to achieve an accreditation to the Artists Bill of Rights Campaign, which recognises that our competitions are fair to entrants in this respect.

Sorry to go on. Most people may wonder what the fuss is all about!  But some people do like to control the rights to their artistic creations (and that is their choice, which we must respect) and so people need to know that EuroSpeleo/Hidden Earth fully respects those rights.
