Anyone know where Swilly Hole (near Caldbeck in Cumbria is)? Also known as Haltcliff Bridge cave.
I have tried twice now to find it. NC3 gives the grid ref as 367367.
Anyone been there and got a better description of the entrance that "down stream on east bank" or 8 or 10 fig grid ref?
Thanks

At haltcliffe bridge there is a spot just after a sharp bend where the road starts to go steeply uphill. At this point, the river runs parallell to the road for a short way, there is also what looks like an old ford crossing point near the farm entrance. Standing at this point, look downsrtream - there should be a steep bank on the right of the river as you look at it (public footpath going over the top of the bank). Step over the low wall and climb down the metal cage retaining wall and into the river. Walk downstream - there is no path -  keeping right at the oxbow. Approx 100yards downriver you will hear swillyhole. It is probably underwater at the minute - often the entrance is filled with flood debris. There are quite a few sinks in this area. The cavingmap site location is not in the right place.
