Are there any natural caves North of the Yorkshire Dales? I'm aware there's plenty of mines. I was wondering what the Limestone geology's (if there is any) like further North??

There are some completely natural caves in the Fell Sandstone of Northumberland, including the most northerly known cave in England. None of them are very long, though.

Yes, theres a reasonable number with some interesting caving to be had! No big pitches, not too many lengthy caves but good all the same.

Mostly yes, there's a few bits in the Brough/Eden sections of Northern Caves 3 that are 'north of the Yorkshire Dales'.

I'm currently unearthing numerous natural shafts in the north-west pennines. The Doline is around 2 miles long with known caves at either end. One of them must go sooner or later?

Also found various swallets/resurgences just north of lake district national park (and therefore t'dales). Nothing like the development of the dales, tight bedding planes mainly and some of it in pink limestone - weird.

Current dig temporarily on hold due to buzzard attack.
