Ian Wright Wright Wright and caving

Ian Wright (the exfootballer cum tv personality) apparently has a new tv series where people are tested to the limit of what they would do for their loved one.

Someone at work was telling me that at the weekend - some woman had to go caving even though she was claustophobic and he reckoned it was near winnats.

Did anyone see it. I presume it was Giants (there was a stream apparently).

A couple of years ago when I started caving again and joined the eldon I remember saying I was fed up with the commercialisation and exposure climbing was getting in the media and joked that you;d never see caving on mainstream tv  .

How wrong - holly oaks and Ian wright. Doh

Time to give it up for a more obscure sport Sam - what you going to do next?

Let's face it, most people think the idea of going underground is insane so can't see it ever being the new bouldering....

I know - long distance parascending in mexico.

Im getting really pissed off with the "extreme" tag.

extreme my arse

I was up on the solway firth with hazel at the weekend - the windsurfers were out jumping and blasting way fast. Im so inspired to get good again. - need to buy a nice short board though - only about £600 - and some decesnt rigs - erm another £1000.
oh and give up work and move to the coast.

Doh and Doh again.

Most extreme sports involve going downhill at high speed so I don't think caving is a contender...unless you've screwed up your SRT :p

I'll be pleased when the bouldering "boom" recedes a bit and everyone goes sport climbing again or something.

Windsurfing would be great but if you live in Sheff then there's a lot of travel, or using minging reservoirs and no doubt a lot of waiting for wind conditions to be just right.

I'd quite like a motocrosser though....

downhill, Nah - even football comes under the extreme tag now (according to one advert I saw the other day)

I was thinking about this before - is snowboarding considered an extreme sport - yep
Is skiing an extreme sport - yep

Was skiing an extreme sport 8 years ago - nope ordinary people just went on skiing holidays, just like the royal family.

So why does everything have to be 'extreme' now. It fucks me off

Coz it makes good TV, and therefore advertising, and therefore cash for somebody. ESPN, The Extreme Channel, etc, etc.

There's always been "Extreme skiing" though, and I'm not sure general skiing is counted as an extreme sport. It's like mountain biking - most people potter round the park, but downhill is definitely "extreme" - you could die doing it.

Mind you, I saw an ad on the Extreme channel (yeah, I do watch it sometimes - I love watching bmx) the other day which had a clip of a climber with all that fast cutting / zooming stuff that they do.....except the climber was on a toprope, with a big helmet on, on a climbing wall. Hmmmm....
