Leica Geosystems Extends Sponsorship of BCRA Cave Surveying Competition

For 2019 to 2021 inclusive, Leica Geosystems UK will be sponsoring two Disto X3 laser rangefinders each year for the British Cave Research Association Cave Surveying competition to be held at the annual UK caving conference - Hidden Earth.

The X3 is the latest generation of rugged Laser Rangefinder, operated by two AAA batteries, it has a range up to 150m, includes a clinometer, a display that orientates to the angle held, is IP65 rated for protection from dust and water and has a Bluetooth datalink. Additionally the X3 can be coupled to the optional DST360 turning it into an electronic theodolite which will prove useful for metalliferous old mine and lava tube surveys.

The Disto X3 has a retail guide price of ?276, so even more reason to complete your cave survey project and submit it to the BCRA Cave Surveying competition.

Many thanks to Leica Geosystems for this very generous support.

Kevin Dixon

Note there are Disto X310's, provided by Leica Geosystems, for the Cave Survey Competition 2018.

Is anyone using this for surveying caves at present?

The tech sheet I've seen has 2 x AA batteries. Doesn't mention non-magnetic requirement as the customised ones of yore.

Would be useful to see one at Hidden Earth to understand the operation better.
