Flooding in Bath Swallet

If you have done this trip you've probably noticed the flood debris and tide marks in the passage below Purple Pot.  Previously the highest tide mark has been about 2 metres up the wall, leaving about another 2 metres of air space in the chamber above the crawl.  I was surprised and somewhat horrified over the last weekend to find a tide mark virtually at roof level in this chamber.  My previous worst case scenario was that anyone trapped in this area by flooding could sit it out safely - that may not be the case in a really severe flood.

Presumably that was from the Monday in Sept when we had almost 80mm of rain in a few hours (the Congresbury Yeo almost burst it's banks) - still a very rare event!

In the event of such flooding the safe place would be to climb up towards Echo Aven. The top of Echo Aven is level with the main passage in Bath and about 10m above the chamber Andy says was flooded. There is a voice connection with Rods along an obvious phreatic passage part way up the climb.
The way up is just after you exit from Buddha Squeeze into the bottom passage, heading upwards and back. (Buddha Squeeze is blasted in a vertical rift, not the flat out crawl which fills with stones).
