Assynt - caving?

Will be visiting Assynt in May, can't decide whether or not to take caving gear or just a head-torch to nosey in the 'bone caves' and other entrances.

Would anyone recommend taking gear and if so what caves are the best to visit in that area??

Cheers

May only have one day to play with underground so....

Uamh an Claonaite & Allt Nan Uahm Stream Cave

OR

Cnoc Nan Uamh

Which would be the better day out - unless of course its possible to do both in a rather long day...??

You could do all in one day. None are exceptionally long. You can walk from ANUS to Claonaite and the others aren't far away. The caves in the Traligill Basin (Cnoc Nan Uamh, etc) are all close together, too. I did ANUS and Claonaite one afternoon and The caves in the Traligill Basin on another afternoon while staying at the Grampian hut a couple of years ago.

Did someone mention that the GSG hut has the most incredible doorstep scenery of any mountain hut in the country (with the very arguable exceptions of Shenaval and just possibly Garbh Choire bothy in the 'Gorms? Nope?
The GSG hut has the most incredible ... (fill in the rest for yourself. But go there!)

Good rocks too. I've given a number of people their "Deep Time" moment in that area. The landscape wears it's history on it's sleeve. It's a good place to go.
