Gautries history

Myself and budding survey beeatch!! Jon have started doing some work on the online description to Gautries (though if that evil genius Sam T gets the green light we may not be needed - :D ). Tongue out of cheek the whole experience has got us thinking very differently about our trips into this cave, such as the history (see, there was a point to all the waffle!!). Anyone know anything? The concrete channel through which the water seems to be diverted is interesting. I need more...give me more!!

see, what you need is a nice guide such as caves of the peak district

This would give you some references to look up - such as

Undated - E.P.C journal Vol 6, No1 Page 19. Salmon & Boldock
1948 - B.S.A. Cave science Vol 1 No 6 pp 186 - 190.

You could almost certainly get these from the Eldon Library. Unfortunatly its in a load of boxes in someones spare room.

Damn we need some shelves erecting somewhere.

Not knowing how such things work and I'm almost certainly opening myself up to ridicule (which is nothing to be scared of :p ...that's a starter for ten by the way?)... why not an online library? Scan scan scan....

I think it's a good idea apart from the copyright issue....and also, who's going to host it, and who's going to do all the scanning? It'd be a massive job

Great idea - hard to implement

We are talking boxes and boxes and boxes or journals etc.
You've got me thinking though.

Ive got some stuff that PB put together on Gautries and stuff, it includes a copy of the cave science guff and some excellent field reports of the original exploration, I dont know if these were included in cave science but they make good reading

You are quite welcome to a copy if you think it might be of any use, call in at weekend if you are interested, email for address if you dont know where I am (Nr Bradwell)
