HELP REQUIRED - Saturday 21st - slop moll (peak).

Hi all.

As some of you may know - Slop moll is collapsing under the path in the Peak Cavern gorge.

It has so far been stabalised with scaffolding, however a new wall needs building to make a permanent repair.

I know its a bit short notice, but if we can get enough bodies together (6 - 10 would be ideal) then we are going to have a crack at it this weekend. It would involve wheel barrowing materials from the carpark at peak up to slop moll/mixing cement/filling sandbags etc.

Without a decent show of hands from the off - its not worth starting. So anyone who is available for any portion of the day - Say I now, then we can arrange for delievery of materials etc.

So far we have 2.5 people.

I can't, but would like to (I know everyone says so!). I'm away the next two weekends, but if you get the job postponed you have free rein to put my name down for any other day... promise.

I'd love to help but I am committed to a trip this Saturday.  But to tempt others who are wondering whether to volunteer, a few years ago Tony Revell and I were rooting about at Slop Moll and we found a beatiful slab of cubic fluorite crystals among the rocks in the streambed, which is sitting on the window ledge just in front of this telly and typewriter I'm using.  See - there are good pickings at Slop Moll!

Can't make it this weekend, Sam, but I could do next.

When we (TSG) cleared all the junk out of the cave a few years back, we got my Escort van pretty much up to the entrance gate. If you could get a vehicle closer than the car park you might well be able to manage with fewer bodies.

Nick.

Same here - can't make it due to a weekend's caving in South Wales. Have you contacted any of the "Coffin Dodgers"?

It looks like you'd get a group if yo umoved the date to the 28th
Give us young folk a chance, one day the coffin dodgers will fail to dodge, so we need the experiance :)

Great stuff all.

Plan is to go on saturday - spend some time sorting out, doing a bit of prep work - maybe lay some foundations in preparation for 28th.

So any volunteers for Saturday 28th would be great.

PS I cant make it on the 28th, But John Taylor and Jim Lister would be most grateful.

More updates as we go.

Brilliant - John and Chris should be there about 9 - 9-30, I'll be arriving a bit later, 11 - 11.30. I'll phone john today and let him know, I'll post up some final arrangements. Probably meet in the TSG hut at some stage.

cheers guys.

Sam - Just wanted to check,

Is it Slop Moll that is collapsing or the small mine level on the Tankersley Vein that leads West under Goosehill to Wall and Field Shafts.

Dan.

Right - So far we have 6, if Braveduck and his mate show up so we should be able to make a good start this saturday.

Spoke to john - he'll be there (at slop moll) from about 9 onwards.

Dont quite know what the ettiquete for getting dressed is - I'd say park in peak cavern car park and get dressed there (but be discrete about it).

Normal Caving gear I guess. Brewkits and Thermos are de-rigure.

Actually looking forward to it now.
