Keld Head tent

Anyone know anything about the tent which appeared near Keld Head this weekend?  Going to do a clear up job tomorrow but interested in any observations. Cheers in advance.

It popped up during Saturday morning/afternoon. On our way up Kingsdale a load of vehicles were parked at that spot which I thought was rather odd, but I don't recall seeing the tent, on our way back the huge thing had appeared. I assumed it was a scout group or something.

Looks like it was a bunch of litter bugs, certainly not part of any of the organised events which took place in the area over the weekend.  Tent, mattresses, pillows, underwear, pringle boxes and unmentionables were just abandoned next to the river.  Myself and Jon Beaven cleared it all up and took it to the tip. It was a good relations exercise for the farmer who has been good to cavers since taking over at the farm a year and a half ago.  He also had a quad bike nicked last week.  Would cavers keep an eye out on the farm 'neighbourhood watch' style and report any suspicious behaviour to the farmer or authorities.  Thanks.

I can be contacted on my CNCC address access@cncc.org.uk should anyone want to..

hate the throw away society stuff. Well done Badlad for clearing up and maintaining farmer relationship.

Well done and you've got a decent tent for free! It's a shame that almost all the English countryside is within range of idiots.

Seems quite a nice tent to just abandon.
Thank you for sorting it out.

Some of the stuff inside had been set on fire and there were several burn holes in the roof.  You can see a couple in the lower photo.  One of the poles had snapped and ripped through the fabric.  It's a fairly cheap tent but looked like it might be new, however even from one use it was pretty minging what with other 'deposits' left behind.  Sorry to say the whole lot was stuffed in bin liners and taken to the tip.

Perhaps another example of the throw away society we are part off.  I guess many will have seen the aerial photos from the Leeds festival doing the rounds - I wonder if that has become the norm?

Unfortunately, it seems to be so - I drove past the Ynot festival site last year (over the road from Mouldridge Mine) a couple of days afterwards and it was a complete tip of rubbish and abandoned tents amid the mud - Passchendale with camping.... :ras:

I remember the camping fields on the Karrimor mountain marathon events after most people had left the following morning.
If you didn't go near the latrine trenches you would barely have known that hundreds had camped overnight.
People being full of pasta, rather than various soothing substances, might have had an effect.

Some festivals have said any tents left will be donated to homeless camps in Calais etc, unfortunately rumours have got around that this is happening at most events, so many are left in good faith, whilst others are trashed.
