This is a long shot but you never know.

In December 1991 there was perhaps the biggest flood in living memory at Castleton, Derbyshire. Something resembling the Colorado River was raging out of Peak Cavern and Castleton was so badly flooded that all road traffic was stopped for many hours. Water levels in the middle of the village reached the base of the windows of the Three Roofs Cafe.

Does anyone have any photographs of this flood?

(Mods - yes, I realise that this is about a Peak District cave but cavers from other areas do visit Castleton which is why I chose, after some deliberation, to post here rather than in the "Derbyshire" area of this site. In this way it will hopefully be seen by as wide a readership as possible. So please bear with me. Thanks.)

I wonder whether it's worth contacting regional newspapers, e.g. Sheffield Star to see if they've anything in their archives that they'd be willing to release?

Interesting to compare the two photos of the weir at Brough.  Looks like a lot more water there in 1991 than in 2008.

Thanks Martinr; one of those is definitely Peak during that flood.
