Swildon's Hole: sump 1 shock

Yesterday's heavy weather has resulted in a bit of welcome news for cavers who have never been keen on diving through sump 1; the loose gravel floor and rocks have been scoured through, resulting in an air space - a sufficient natural lowering of the water level now allows you to crawl through!

Trips today are looking at what may have happened to the levels at sumps 2,3 and 4 and there is a distinct possibility that it may now be possible to easily get to Swildon's 5 without too much trouble.

I'll lay a pound to a pinch of shit that neither 2 nor 3 will open & that 4 will remain unpleasant whatever.

I'm sure I have actually have seen sump 1 open, about 12 years ago in drought. April seems a bit early though.

Good one!

Actually, it opens fairly frequently in summer, these days.
