Don't forget it is the BCRA Cave Science Symposium and AGM this coming weekend (27th November) at Hulland Ward, near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. For more info, see https://bcra.org.uk/sym/index.html

The field trip will be on Sunday 28th November and will focus on the geology, hydrology, karst landforms and caves of the Upper Dove valley, meeting at the British Caving Library at Glutton Bridge at 9:45 am. Parking is available and there will be an opportunity to view the library before we depart at around 10:00. The precise route will depend on the weather and the enthusiasm of the participants, but include the spectacular Chrome Hill and Dowell Dale. We expect to finish the walk by mid-afternoon. Please bring suitable warm clothing and footwear as the route is likely to be muddy and slippery underfoot.  Please contact John Gunn or Andy Farrant (https://bcra.org.uk/contact.html) if you wish to join the fieldtrip and haven't already registered.

For anyone attending the BCRA Cave science symposium field trip to Glutton Bridge & Dowel Dale tomorrow (Sunday 28th), please be aware it has been cancelled due to Storm Arwen. Conditions in the Buxton area were pretty atrocious this morning, and road conditions are likely to be bad tomorrow. Power outages at Hulland Ward meant that the symposium was also cancelled. The Cave Science symposium and the field will be rearranged to a future date. Please check the BCRA facebook page and website for more details in due course.
Thanks to all those who attended despite the weather.

There was about four inches of snow fell last night here at Flagg which partly melted through the day and has now frozen so trying to get to Glutton Bridge in the morning would not be sensible - cancelling was really the only option...

It took us several hours to dig our way out of the Orpheus hut on Sat am. Derbyshire police are saying several roads in the Buxton area are closed including the road leading down to Glutton Bridge, with more snow falling this afternoon.
