Hi all,

Hope you are all well?

I was just wandering if anyone is selling a caving lamp currently. Max ?100, would consider a torch tat needs some TLC.

Thanks all

Starless river predominantly sell Fenix Lights. so they are well recommended https://starlessriver.com/product-category/lights-chargers-batteries/

you can pick up a HM65R at trekinn for ?72.99 https://www.trekkinn.com/outdoor-mountain/fenix-hm65r-headlight/137279213/p

and have some money left over to pick up a HM23 as a backup light (8 hours runtime on high) which is half the lumens of the HM65's medium setting. https://www.trekkinn.com/outdoor-mountain/fenix-hm23-headlight/137279215/p

The only problem is they both take different batteries, AA for the HM23 and 18650 for the HM65. so you couldn't use the batteries from one in the other if the light died on you which is a downside. I have never used either, but do have a HL30 as a backup and my main light runs on AA's so i've got 4 batteries on the main light which can transfer to the backup in the rare event that a rock takes out the main light. https://www.trekkinn.com/outdoor-mountain/fenix-hl30-headlight/137131118/p?utm_source=google_products&utm_medium=merchant&id_producte=8504604&country=uk&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi-Oms9XZ8wIVgbHtCh3kdwSPEAQYBCABEgIsyfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I would use the HL30 as a main light if push came to shove, the only downside in it is the hinge is quite weak, so when I wear mine now the light always flops down. I don't think i'd be able to put up with this on a main light, but for a backup it's fine. and if i had to use it as a main light I would bind the thing up with electrical tape to stop it flopping.

Suggest you speak with Inglesport and/or Starless River and look for at alloy-body headtorches on elastic strap.

I have used Fenix HL55 for a few years, which has been great. Robust, waterproof, and the 18650 batteries to easy to source/charge/replace. Can be used on or off helmet. Now superseded by HL60R, which is rechargeable.

The smaller HL50 (now superseded by HM50R) would be very adequate for starting out and is more handy for camping/running/backup.

It is not necessary to spend as much as ?100

I have been searching around for the best, cheapest, truly waterproof headtorch with not a lot of success. But that HL60R looks really good at a good price too. 950 lumens is pretty high. So thank you for the advice and review.

I would be cautious of any numbers quoted by Fenix (you can search various discussions on here). Most people seem very happy with the build quality and reliability of Fenix lights, but the output data they quote is not particularly scientific or useful.

I've got an old speleotecnics headset with 4xAA petzl zoom battery box, on an equally old HB helmet, that I'm unlikely to ever use again. I've now run out of space on my row of helmet hooks (I have 8 other more serviceable sets...) , so I probably ought to get rid of it. I'm happy to let it go (with the helmet) for a donation to your local cave rescue team, but really, it wants some considerable TLC or upgrading, or you'll be needing the aforementioned rescue team when it dies on you
It's the furthest right in the below picture. Based in the Bristol area, but can probably arrange caver post elsewhere.
