Dates have been set for this year's exploration bonanza to the Dachstein Massif in the Austrian Alps & will cover a one month period from 19th August til 17th September.  This should allow people to attend the European Speleo Event in the Dales & then head over to the proper caves in Europe  ;)

Most of our organisation is done via facebook so apologies to those who are out of the loop.  The main Group page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/dachsteincaving/?fref=ts or do a search for Dachstein (Austria) Caving Expeditions.

This year's event can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1120645604614506/ or do a search for Dachstein Caving Expedition '16.  Please join the Group first & then the event.

For those not on FB this is a cut & paste from the page to give you an idea of what to expect:

Objectives will be a bit different because last year the deeper parts of WUG Pot (-850m) broke our finest cavers as it's too hard for humans!! We've decided that we need a nice trip for once instead of all the misery so initial thoughts are as follows:
-investigate the many leads in WUG on the way down the cave (some of these are quite shallow, some are deep so opportunities for cavers of all abilities to get involved);
-Continue the high grade re-survey of the deeper parts of WUG (good opportunity for keen tigers to cut their teeth, learn the cave, find new tunnels, learn to survey & camp at -750m).
-Continue re-rigging the 600m deep PL2 with a view to connect to WUG (hard objective).
-Investigate Eisschacht Beim Grunberg, a cave that was discovered & explored by the locals years ago but that was terminated by an ice plug. This is such a crucial & major cave that we must push it as the ice may well have receded. This could turn out to be one of the major objectives & is accessible to all.

If we make a connection to the Hirlatz Hole from WUG Pot then it will become a 1.5km deep monster system & we can all give up this absurd activity & open a bar on a beach somewhere sunny.

Overall depth potential beneath the mountains is in excess of 2.5km so this is fairly serious stuff.  Cost is as always absurdly cheap for what you get & come for a week or a month.

Excellent work.
Shameless (off-topic) plug follows ... the current Eurospeleo ticket prices are held at their current level until the end of February ... so get them before then!
