Yes, I recognise his shinny helmet from other TV appearances! 🙂

That's great to see.  Rope coiling a little untidy though  ;)

This appears to be in Scotland - anyone up there care to tell us how this good PR came about?

They are also using Mountain Rescue at moment, so guess it's following that theme (Wemyss is in Scotland)

I'd been thinking the Beeb should have some cavers...and there they are, excellent  ;)

Any background on how they got in touch??

The mountain rescue team is my local team, Central Beacons MRT.

The cavers are from the GSG and GUPA. Goon is the one with the shiny helmet, and of course the one you can hear.

They emailed us out of the blue about it. They are working their way around the country and it just so happened that they thought of cavers to film in Scotland. They also filmed Bhangra dancers in Edinburgh on the same day.

Also, the rope was coiled better at first, but this was about the 30th take and it had been coiled, uncoiled, dragged around etc in previous takes  :)

Sounds like fun! But 30 takes? I know these things take a lot of goes but crikey!

Thanks for the info and well done to all of you.  I'm still waiting to see it on the telly - they seem to be overplaying the outdoor swimmers, bird watchers and mountain rescue team at the moment.  I hope the cavers will get as much air time as the hippos did  :)

I've seen it on TV once so far

I've seen it once on BBC1 and hope to see more of it - did a double-take at first and then thought YESSSS!!!

Good to see caving covered as a (fairly) normal activity - being allied with bird watching and mountain rescue is no bad thing.  (Not sure about the winter swimmers though.)

Maybe 30 takes was an exaggeration, but it was at least 20. They were trying different things in the takes. Apparently there have been at least 2 versions on TV - the first is in the clip, and the other is us crawling into the cave.

We were told it would be shown before dramas. It's been seen before Casualty and before Line of Duty. Like most cavers I don't watch much TV and have only seen it when I recorded Casualty on the off chance it would be before it.

Line of Duty for me!
Perfect background drama drivel whilst twiddling away on the PC...
