Rake Shaft

Has anyone dived the upstream sump in Rake Shaft at Perryfoot in the last 25years. the thread about Bagshawe and Tony Buckley brought to mind his dive there in the seventies.

I believe the sump was about 50ft long and about 4ft deep, emerging in a substantial walk about airspace, but Tony was as blind as a bat with out his glasses and was unable to explore.

Any updates anyone ?

It's 40 years since Tony Buckley did his dive at the upstream Rake Shaft sump. Ben had a go in 1977 and he reported the sump being 40 ft long. He didn't follow the continuation due to "tightness and bad vis". The Peak District Sump Index 1994 reports boulders falling onto people here; Chris Rhodes carried for Ben on his dive and it was Chris who recounted the looseness at the time the index was written. We had a look at it on a caving trip more recently with a view to a future dive but the huge quantities of gloopy mud everywhere, the bad vis and the small size of the sump led to us never bothering to return. Hope this helps.
