Request to borrow a 7/8 Whitworth nut

This might sound like a strange request but does anyone have a 7/8 Whitworth nut we can borrow, briefly, in the Dales?

Reason is we have one in a cave which we think is this size (or possibly 22 mm metric coarse - but Whitworth seems more likely). It's getting ready for replacing but (for various reasons) we don't want to remove it from the site to check its size.  We could look into using vernier calipers and thread gauges etc but the easiest option is simply to try a nut which is likely to be right, return the borrowed nut - then order one of our own from Settle Coal.

If there is enough thread showing you should be able to tell the difference between 7/8 BSW and M22 with a ruler. BSW is 9 threads per inch and M22 is 10.16 threads per inch.

Please IGNORE this request now; after measuring properly this week the bolt in question is bigger than we thought it was. We may have found a better alternative way to deal with this problem now, so no need to borrow a 7/8 Whitworth nut after all. But thanks anyway.

Can we stop torquing about the matter now? I think the thread has run its course. No doubt someone will pitch up with other puns shortly. Not sure that we got to the root of the problem; inevitably one thing leads to another.

Sir Joseph whitworth created a gun that fired a hexagonal bullet, probably one of the most accurate rifles of the day but they cost about 15 times more than the rivals so did not become mainstream

It was however the first rifle to be fired at the London rifle club by the queen.
