Just been told the sad news of the death from Covid-19 of Dave Greenfield, Stranglers keyboard player and writer of their classic, award winning Golden Brown.

Badlad, Pagasus, Tim Gould and I were looking forward to a rendition of Golden Brown and many of their other classics at the end of October at the Sheffield City Hall. I last saw them live at the Nelson Mandela Building in Sheffield nearly 40 years ago with members of the TSG.

Hi Mark
Sadly ?there?s no more heroes anymore?.  .  ?Something better change?. soon.
But we all have to get a ?Grip? on ourselves. as things are getting ?Ugly?.
Always remember though that ?there?s always the sun?.

Hey Duck ditch,

I think it might be the right time for you to resurrect your classic music quiz for UKCaving?

First saw The Stranglers at Kings Hall, Stoke on Trent, in 1981, at the tender age of 19, seen them many times since culminating with their performances last year, Bournemouth O2 in March, and then just down the road from where I live in France - Big Band Cafe, Herouville St Clair, Caen in November.

The Big Band Cafe was packed, and I finally managed to get the wife of 37 years to come along and see them live (Donny Osmond, Take That and Alfie Boe are more her bag  :-\ )

It was one of the best performances so far, Dave was his normal laid back self, drinking pints with one hand whilst his other hand was working its magic.

We all thought Jet Black would be the first to go at his advanced years - he's over 80 now and I last saw him with a half set at Engine Shed in Lincoln in 2012/13.

So long Dave, thanks for the memories and music, and give them a blast on the keyboard wherever you are

You must be joking Mark. I can?t even work out how to put you tube clips on this.  I?ve not moved on from cassette tapes.
I hope your still managing to down those yards of ale while singing a sea shanty.

It's dead easy to put on a YouTube clip.  Go to YouTube and copy the URL.  Then just paste it here.  Even the crazed undead like me can do it.

Strange Little Girl, Always the Sun, and Skin Deep are faves of mine amongst others.  Always thought they are excellent musically.

One day we'll be allowed back walking on the beaches looking at the peaches....

Waltzin'black is the best ever cooking song - Keith Floyd used it as his cooking show theme tune.

Here's Skin Deep - RIP 12 seconds in.

Saw them a couple of years ago in Newcastle. Just a night out and didn?t expect much. Frankly it was one of the best gigs I have ever been too - hugely professional  and highly entertaining.

Ah, but how many stranglers tracks can you relate to caving?  Here's one to start...

A rare studio version apparently

Down the sewer is my all time favourite stranglers track.  Forget the words.  Loved dancing to this.  Caving related having dug a drain in the mendips that might as well have been a sewer.  https://youtu.be/4ET_xkIGJVk

Maybe the following for the various politicos and activists and anarchists and the other things people get bored with...  ;)
