The Great County Adit (New Edition) ?15.99

I'm offering this post free if ordered before 31st October 2016  at www.moorebooks.co.uk

Author Allen Buckley, Sb, 240mm x 170mm, 144pp, fully illustrated with 12 pages in colour .Described by The Mining Journal in 1843 called it ?the most extensive, valuable and systematic undertaking of its kind in Cornwall ? perhaps in England and we believe few in the world exceed it in importance.?- started in 1748 in the Carnon Valley within fifty years it drained the largest number of working mines in the world, eventually over 60 mines were served and it reached about 40 miles in length. Allen's narrative is informative and well researched the book includes a number of modern and historical photos and is well worth adding to your collection.

The Great County Adit was first published r in 2000 and for some years even second hand copies have been hard to find. The new edition has been revised and extended; a larger page format has enabled us to include a much improved set of maps, new illustrations ? many in colour ? and a gazetteer of what can be seen along the Adit?s course. Although by its nature less obvious to observers, there is no doubt as to the significance of this undertaking, remarkable as an example of co-operation between mine owners who were otherwise keen competitors. Allen Buckley knows more about the adit than anyone and has explored most of it during his working life. This is the history of a work of national importance.
