Are UKCaving cavers representative of the population politically?

Which way do you intend to vote in the upcoming general election?

Just wanted to start a fight... I jest, actually I was just wondering if cavers (that go on UKC) were representative of the population at large after hearing two people assert that cavers are naturally conservative AND naturally left wing.

I think my own bubble is two pamphlets away from singing the red flag but it's nice to check.

Brave of you posting the poll :) though I was wondering the same myself.

Please folks, by all means vote on the poll, however could we avoid rants about national politics. We've been wonderfully free of it on here, let's keep it that way - posting (politely about caving politics is of course fine :)  )

Interesting - there may be a few folk that would be following their natural party inclinations but voting tactically

---- for what the they view as "the greater good"

Mine was indeed indicative of a tactical vote. Perhaps that's another pole then, how many cavers will tactically vote?

It is interesting to see if cavers are more left or right or just more tactical. I suspect if you take into account location, age group etc I wonder if it would tally with national polls.

I don't like it, it does not belong on here and am boycotting it.

Sorry, but too many people around trying to shove their porridge down the throats of others, be it politics or other matters. When they do it in conversation i usually comment about weather or gardening. Its called "stonewalling" and they soon get the message. One could be more blatant and say "Sorry but I don't want to know"

My back garden is a right mess, however the pots of thyme, rosemary, and wild strawberries I planted out earlier in the year are still alive despite all the rain.  Which is nice.

I have been busy relaying paving slabs. Its a start, I know what you mean by "mess". Its spending all my time working in the mines.

How I wish I had a garden...but I live in a flat. But my "mother in law" has a beautiful garden which I get paid to tend to from time to time :)

Washing all the heavy metals off your suit probably isn't helping...

It doesn't seem to stop gorse and brambles though. The historic sites that this stuff takes over!
I have some at Cwmystwyth and worry about it spreading.

It has 'done' a lot of sites in Cornwall.

political rant that pretends not to be a political rant

You're not stonewalling here, you've done the equivalent of walking up to some other people talking about it and interrupting them. You are of course free to toddle on past posts like this without injecting yourself into them! Youth of today eh, no manners.

On a thread-related note, I'm not *that* surprised that a poll of cavers would be majority left-leaning (looking like labour/greens). I suspect the sort of people to get their rocks off pushing themselves down stupid holes for no reason or to wear nipple tassels at a national caving event probably intersects with the sort of people who would vote for the green party

...or brake fluid - that seems to kill most things.

As for voting, I want "none of the above" on the ballot paper, this time round it feels like every party's talking complete crap and there's no MRL candidate standing locally, I  have the misfortune of living in a safe seat so tactical voting is as effective as spoiling your ballot paper in this constituency
